The nitrate colorimetric method indirectly quantifies the absorbance by reducing it to nitrite and reacting it with a color reagent to produce a colored substance.
Application scenarios
1. Water quality monitoring
Surface water/groundwater: Rapid on-site screening for nitrate pollution (such as agricultural runoff and industrial wastewater).
Seawater: Pre treatment is required to remove interference from high chloride ions (such as silver salt precipitation method).
2. Food safety
Vegetables/Meat: Detect nitrate residues (such as spinach and ham, with a national limit of 3000 mg/kg).
Drinking water/milk: Monitor nitrate accumulation during processing.
3. Safety testing
Residual explosives: Trace screening of nitrate at explosion sites such as black powder.
